The child. The family. The school. The community that holds them all.
ADOPT
The child. The family. The school. The community that holds them all.
When a mother asks for bus fare to be with her daughter undergoing kidney surgery in a city hours away, we say yes. When a girl is having epileptic seizures, we drive her to the hospital ourselves. When the Catholic Ladies' Group holds the community together in our absence, we fund them quietly and gratefully. When a family living in a clay house with no indoor plumbing sends their daughter to school every day in a spotless uniform, we visit every household, sit in plastic chairs, and ask permission to support them — not the other way around.
This is not partnership in the NGO sense. It is adoption in the human sense: a moral responsibility we accept fully and cannot walk away from. TCI adopts the child within the family, the family within the school, the school within the community. We support Santi's IRB-approved field research on sport, school, and spirituality as protective factors for resilience among indigenous Honduran girls — because understanding what keeps a girl in school is as important as building the school itself.
We have been gifted chickens. We have been invited into Bible studies. We have been asked, more times than we can count, when we are coming back. That is what adoption looks like on the ground. Not a program. A relationship.
